Vocations Commission
The purpose of the Christian Vocations Commission is to support family life, to encourage vocations to the priesthood and religious life, to help singles better understand their own God-given vocation, to prepare engaged couples for marriage, to provide enrichment experiences for married couples, to work with youth of all ages in their development towards Christian adulthood and to set up a Parish Nursing Program that will provide minimal physical check-ups such as blood pressure tests, educational programs and materials on health matters. The Parish Council has a representative on the Commission. Currently the ministry of the Christian Vocations commission is made up of the following committees:
Marriage Sponsor Couple: Marriage is so important to the life of the church and to the welfare of society that the Catholic Church desires to support engaged couples that have decided to share their life together in the sacrament of marriage. Marriage Sponsor Couples are trained to share their experiences with engaged couples as a way to assist them so that their love will grow deeper day after day. The engaged couples meet with the sponsor couple for five sessions. Several married couples have gone through this training in the parish, but we are in need of additional couples. Married couples, whether together one year or sixty years, should consider joining this ministry.

Elizabeth Ministry: This ministry responds to the joys and sorrows of a woman's life during the childbearing years. It is based upon Jesus' vision of the radical goodness, beauty, and truth of human life. It follows the example of the Scripture story of the Visitation by bringing together women who share a similar story. This outreach service for mothers and fathers includes pregnancy and pregnancy complications, birth, infant or child crisis, special needs, infertility concerns, miscarriage and infant or child death, and grand parenting issues. The ministry began with the "Rose Program". Roses are in church for any woman who would like to participate. Simply fill out a tag on the appropriate rose and put it in the vase. The parish will be praying for all the women represented by the roses in the vase.
We are in need of women who are willing to be prayer partners and/or support for women participating in this program. If you have experienced infertility, birth, adoption, or loss of a child, please consider joining in this ministry.

Health Ministry: The Parish Nursing Ministry strives to raise parishioners' awareness of healthy living in a holistic way, that is, physically and emotionally. Parish nurses will provide educational experiences and materials regarding major health issues facing Americans today and preventative measures to avoid them. Currently the Parish Nursing Ministry provides monthly blood pressure checks on the third Sunday of each month and a monthly article in the Hilltop Herald on health issues. If anyone would like to have more information on certain health topic, please let this ministry know.

Christ Renews His Parish: CHRP is a process designed to bring members of a parish together in Christ. All of our commitments, including our commitment to Christ, need renewal if we are to be faithful. Christ Renews His Parish is an effective spiritual renewal process which calls together the members of the parish--priest, religious, team and laity--in order to experience personal conversion and Christian community. The "retreat" begins @ 8 am on Saturday and concludes @ 3 pm on Sunday. One retreat is offered for the men of the parish and one retreat is offered for the women of the parish. There is a Core Team in place in the parish and the retreats are offered in conjunction with St. Nicholas Parish. The Christian Vocations Commission is currently in need of additional members. If you would like to be involved with any of the ministries that are covered by the Christian Vocations Commission, please call the parish office and we will be happy to get you started.
