St. Joseph Church Youth Group

Throughout the school year various traditional events are planned but not limited to the following:

September: We run two game booths at the Dale Fall Festival the weekend after Labor Day. This is our annual fund raising event. We also, as a parish, recycle aluminum cans throughout the year to help fund our group activities.

October: The Sunday before Halloween is our annual grub hunt. Students go door to door asking for food donations to give to our area food bank followed by a pizza party.

December: We go caroling at the nursing home followed by bowling and pizza on the second Sunday before Christmas.

March: A Lock-In is held on Holy Thursday. Students attend church then check in at the parish center for an all night stay. Activities and food are planned throughout the evening. At midnight students participate in Stations of the Cross.

Holy Saturdary: Our youth group hosts an annual Easter carnival for ages 0-9. Each child attending will make a craft, play carnival games, visit with Easter Bunny, and can participate in the egg hunt. Refreshments are also provided.

Other various monthly activities: skating, laser tag, helping at parish meals, church cleanups, Christmas decoration, etc. Many of our youth minister at our church services as lectors, greeters, servers, and ushers. The youth group helps to pay for students interested in growing in their faith by attending Teens Encounter Christ retreat.(TEC)

Mission Trip: The youth from Saint Joseph, Saint Nicholas, and Mary Help of Christian churches, along with adult volunteers from these parishes, attend an annual Mission trip. Catholic HEART Workcamp sponsors week long camps throughout the United States. The goal of each trip is to provide service work to areas of the country where individuals are physically unable to complete the work or do not have the financial resources to do so. We believe we are the hands of Jesus, the spirit of hope and the enthusiasm of living our faith through our actions. The Youth have fundraising events throughout the year to offset the cost of the trip so that each youth who is committed to attending the trip is not financially burdened by doing so. This year the group will be traveling to Champain, IL during the week of July 18th-24th. The theme of the Catholic HEART Workcamp this year is Candence. We would love your support and your prayers as we prepare for this trip. For more information you can contact the church offices at 812-937-2200 (SJ), 812-937-2385 (SN), 812-937-4326 (MHC) or call Mary Gogel at (812) 937-4171. You may also contact any of the participants for information about the trip. For more information about Catholic HEART Workcamp visit their website at: www.heartworkcamp.com

Group Activities: Throughout the year there are many youth activities that occur. The youth really enjoy having fun while being good Christians. All the goals for the activities are to incorporate and build their faith and interest toward their religion. Activities scheduled can be found on the calendar of events. Watch the calendar so that you do not miss out on the fun.
